Queen stars rake in £100k a day due to soaring success of Bohemian Rhapsody film

The remaining members of Queen are raking in over £100,000 in sales a day thanks to the continued success of their film Bohemian Rhapsody.

Their latest accounts from their main company Queen Productions reported turnover of £42million in a single year and a profit before tax of £19,179,528.

A dividend payout of £20.17m was paid out and split between surviving group members Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon and the estate of Freddie Mercury for the accounts ending in September 30 last year(2020).

The film Bohemian Rhapsody, named after the band's biggest hit, was released 2018 but continues to be streamed and watched online created further income with new legions of fans also buying their music.

The 2019 accounts had also reported turnover increased by £50.8m "in part due to the success of the film Bohemian Rhapsody." And the latest accounts mention it's success as well - anticipating "further income from the film" in the next financial year ending 30 September 2021.

Queen productions was a company set up when the band were hugely famous in 1975.

It heads a grouping of nine businesses including Queen Touring, Queen Films, Queen Theatrical Productions and We Will Rock You.

Ahead of the release of the film in 2018 it made an £11.8m pre-tax profit on turnover at £21.9m, around half of what is managed in the last financial accounts.

The film Bohemian Rhapsody banked £700m in box office. It was awarded four Oscars including best actor for Remi Malek who played Freddie Mercury.

The film told the story of frontman Mercury from the formation of the band in 1970 up to their 1985 Live Aid performance at the original Wembley Stadium in 1985 and his secret illness battle.

He died in 1991 from bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS.

In recent years the remaining band members have played live with Adam Lambert on singing duties.

For new and old fans and to help money to continue to come in, Queen's 1981 'Greatest Hits' collection is being re-released today(July 2) to mark five decades of the iconic rock legends and the 40th anniversary of the LP.

Upon its release, the album made history as the first and only collection to have sold more than six million copies in the UK (6.75 million sales to date) with global sales above 25 million.

According to Queen's publicity around the release, one in four British households are already in possession of the album. There is a new collector's edition Greatest Hits CD with exclusive slipcase cover and a limited edition cassette format set.
